The letter calls for residential aged care providers to proactively address the rise COVID-19 and influenza cases in aged care settings.

Currently, vaccination rates in aged care settings are low.

Providers have been encouraged to organise vaccinations to:

  • minimise the risk of transmission
  • prevent serious illness or death of aged care residents.

Providers have also been asked to plan for access to oral antiviral medicines to reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalisation or event death.
